Get Organised: Make Up Storage

I am usually a make up case girl - but it's about time I got my make up organised. The products I use on a daily basis are usually found stuffed into a cosmetic bag I keep in my handbag (or on the bathroom vanity!) & the rest of my makeup is shoved into a big makeup case. Now my problem with this is I have to rummage around the case to look for something I need - which can be time consuming & secondly, a lot of my makeup goes unused when the next new product comes along!

Since I have embarked on my Project 10 Pan Challenge earlier this year, I am more conscious of what I buy & can now see the wastage created by unused products I had long forgotten about. I had been thinking of an effective way that I can keep all my products organised neatly where I can see everything & I had been recommended the Original Makeup Box from The Makeup Box Shop, but there was no way I was going to pay $131 plus shipping! Now the hunt was on for a cheaper alternative.

About a month ago M & I went to Officeworks as M needed to purchase some items for the home office. As we were looking around, I found the perfect alternative to the Original Makeup Box -  the Keji 4 Drawer Desktop File. They do have a 5 drawer version, but I preferred the deeper drawer on the bottom of the 4 drawer organiser. The unit is also stackable, which is a bonus! While it is not exactly the same as the Original Makeup Box, it is pretty close to it & you can pick it up for a bargain at just under $15.

What do you think?

March Project 10 Pan Empties - Part 1

I have been doing pretty well with my Project 10 Pan challenge. I am into the 3rd month of my challenge and I am surprised I have lasted this long! This month so far, I have finished 5 of my 10 chosen products. Here they are:

Bvlgari Body Lotion: This body lotion is very hydrating with a subtle scent that lingers throughout the day. An excellent base for the matching Bvlgari Perfume (which I ran out of a while back!). Will repurchase once I have finished all my current moisturisers.

Joico K-Pak Reconstructor: The reconstuctor worked to nourish my dry curly/wavy hair. I used to be a fan of this product for a while a few years back, but now I am not that convinced as I have found products that work better than this one. The texture isn't that great and the smell is a bit weird. It seemed to do its job of replenishing my hair but unfortunately I don't think I will purchase this product again.

Juicy Couture Couture Couture Perfume: This is one of my favourite perfumes! The perfume is quite strong & long lasting - a few sprays is all that is needed. The scent is a nice blend of sweet & fruity. Will definitely repurchase after I work my way through my many perfumes, if it hasn't been discontinued by then!

Trilogy Vital Moisturising Cream (trial size): I received this trial sized moisturising cream when I purchased the Trilogy Rosehip oil. The moisturiser was quite hydrating, however it felt really heavy & left my skin feeling shiny & sticky. As much as I love Trilogy's Rosehip Oil, I will not be purchasing the full size of this moisturiser.

Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara: This mascara felt like your standard mascara & didn't do much for me in terms of lengthening or volumising my lashes. At most, it gave you natural looking lashes. For the price, I was quite disappointed with the quality I got - especially from Bobbi Brown. Will not repurchase.

Get Organised: Nail Polish

For a while now I have been thinking about a simple way of organising my polishes. Now I don't have a large collection by any means, but having my nail polishes scattered around and looking for a particular shade was becoming a mission. So I invested in a small cosmetic bag, which at the time was perfect.

Since then my collection was slowly growing and the bag was becoming too full to close & did not provide enough room for the polishes to stand upright so sure enough, there were some spillages! I upgraded to a bigger bag from Forever New which now perfectly fits all my polishes & other bits & pieces for my nails. However one problem was still apparent, to find the shade I was after I had to pull the nail polishes up one by one to see what colour it was.

I toyed with the idea of sticking stickers to the lids of the polishes, with the shades painted on, although after I made up a few stickers I could see this wasn't going to be a long term solution for me. The stickers were already starting to move around & lift. I decided the best way was to dab a little of the nail colour onto the lid directly & this seemed to produce a better result!

A few storage tips..

* Always keep the bottle upright as this prevents leaks and the lid being stuck on with polish.

*Keep your polishes stored in a cool, dark place away from sunlight to extend the shelf life.

*After you have finished painting your nails, wipe the neck of the bottle to prevent the lid becoming sealed on with the polish.

If you have any tips you would like to share that I have missed, please let me know!

Lush Review: Phoenix Rising

What Lush Says: "All the myth and magic of a Phoenix pressed into one bath time experience, which lets you arise at the end feeling refreshed and ready for the next 500 years. One of Lush’s patented double layer bath ballistics, your Phoenix will sink to the bottom then rise in triumph, his mythical sparkling purple and green plumage unfurling through your bath water.  He’ll release gentle shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba oil to leave your skin feather soft, and exotic essential oils of fruit and spices, which take your mind on a flight of fancy to distant shores where you are lying on a beach drinking spiced rum."

What I Found: Phoenix Rising is a purple ballistic with a glittery gold sheen & an apple green centre. The ballistic has a pleasant cinnamon smell which lingers on your skin & leaves you feeling silky smooth. When the ballistic is put in water it sinks, then rises turning the water a purplish colour, emitting small pieces of cinnamon bark. Definitely makes it to my top five favourites!

Araluen's Fremantle Chilli Festival

Being chilli lovers, M & I decided to head down to the Fremantle Chilli Festival to see what was on offer. There were so many stalls selling everything from chilli plants to chilli beer, chilli sauces, chilli meats & chilli cheeses.

Our first stop was the Matso's stall where we each had a Matso's alcoholic ginger beer & a Matso's chilli beer to share. Not being a huge beer fan, but wanting to try something different, I hesitantly tried the chilli beer, which was quite strong and left a chilli burn at the back of my throat. M (who enjoys a few beers from time to time) didn't really enjoy the beer either, so that was a bit of a waste!

Next stop, we went to a few stalls offering free tastings. At one stall in particular, I tried 5 of the hottest chilli sauces (hotness rating being 9-10 out of 10). I was fine with the first 4, but with the 5th, I had the hottest mouth burn & my ears were hurting so bad, lasting about 5 minutes or so. Luckily I had my ginger beer to temporarily relieve the burn (probably not the best option though!).

Anyway here are some pics of the day and some goodies we walked away with:

February Project 10 Pan Empties - Part 2

I finished the second part of my Project 10 Pan for February a little late. There were a few never ending products!

Here they are, finally finished:

Sportsgirl Body Glow Instant Body Bronzer: A great bronzer that evens my skin tone when applied & has a lovely summery scent of coconut. The bronzer is very moisturising on the skin, leaves a slight shimmer & easily washes off in the shower. It has been a favourite of mine for about 6 years. Will definitely repurchase when I have finished my spare.

Nivea Sun Light Feel Daily Face Veil: The light formula is quickly absorbed into the skin and doesn't leave a greasy residue. Being SPF 30, it protects the skin from sun damage. The Face Veil is light enough to use under foundation as a base. Will definitely repurchase when I finish my spare.

Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick: This Face Touch Up Stick works as a concealer - hiding spots & skin imperfections. The formulation is quite creamy & unfortunately slid off my face after a few hours in the spots it was applied. Will not repurchase as I might as well use a concealer.

Clinique High Impact Mascara (trial size): I got this mascara as a free gift with my purchase of a Clinique product. I didn't find it to do much to my lashes and as the formulation was not waterproof, I found it smudged. Will not purchase full size product.

MAC Ultra Darling Lipstick: A beautiful pink colour, perfect for days at the office.  The creamy formula is moisturising on the lips, but unfortunately it doesn't have great staying power and needs to be reapplied a few times over the course of a day. Not on my list of lipstick repurchases.
